Vertigo and Dizziness: When Vestibular Rehabilitation Can Help

Dizziness, spinning sensations and unsteadiness can make everyday activities feel risky. For many people, the cause lies in the inner ear’s balance system or in the way the brain processes balance information.

What is vestibular rehabilitation?

Vestibular rehabilitation is an exercise-based approach that aims to reduce dizziness, improve gaze stability and restore balance. Programs are tailored after a careful assessment.

What an assessment looks at

  • Symptoms and triggers.
  • Eye and head movement control.
  • Standing and walking balance.
  • Specific positional tests where appropriate.

Treatment may include

  • Repositioning manoeuvres for certain types of positional vertigo.
  • Gaze stabilisation and habituation exercises.
  • Balance and gait training, including sensor-based balance platforms.

Dizziness can have many causes, some of which need medical evaluation first. Always seek urgent care for sudden severe symptoms.
