Insurance & TPA
How health insurance can cover your rehabilitation — and how our Insurance & TPA desk helps with every step of your claim.
Rehabilitation often continues for weeks or months, so it helps to know early what your health insurance may cover. Our Insurance & TPA desk explains your policy benefits, prepares the paperwork insurers ask for and supports your claim from start to finish — so you can focus on recovery.
Is physiotherapy covered by health insurance in India?
It depends on your policy wording. In general:
- Post-hospitalisation cover — most indemnity health policies pay for medically necessary treatment, including physiotherapy prescribed by your treating doctor, for a fixed period after discharge (commonly 60 to 180 days, depending on the plan). This is the most common way rehabilitation after stroke, spinal surgery, joint replacement, fractures or major surgery is covered.
- In-patient physiotherapy — therapy given while you are admitted in hospital is usually part of the hospital bill.
- OPD / outpatient cover — physiotherapy that is not linked to a hospital stay (for example back pain, sports injuries or pelvic floor therapy) is covered only if your policy or employer plan includes an OPD benefit or wellness rider, usually up to a yearly limit.
- Group / corporate health plans — many employer policies include post-hospitalisation and OPD benefits for you and your family. Your HR team or the policy’s TPA can confirm the limits.
- Personal accident policies — may reimburse rehabilitation after an accident, as per the policy terms.
Coverage, limits, co-payments and exclusions vary from policy to policy. Our desk will help you read your policy and check with the insurer or TPA before you start a long program.
How claims work at Neuromatics
Outpatient rehabilitation is usually claimed by reimbursement: you pay for sessions at the centre and then submit the claim to your insurer or TPA, who settles it directly into your bank account. Where a cashless facility is available for your policy, we will tell you at the time of booking.
- Share your policy details — policy number, TPA name and your discharge summary or doctor’s prescription for physiotherapy.
- Benefit check — our desk reviews post-hospitalisation / OPD limits and the documents your insurer needs.
- Treatment & documentation — we issue itemised invoices, attendance records and a treatment summary signed by the treating physiotherapist or doctor.
- Submit your claim — through your insurer’s or TPA’s app, portal or office, within the time limit in your policy (often 15–30 days from the end of treatment).
- Query support — if the insurer asks for clarifications, we provide the clinical notes needed.
Documents usually required
- Claim form, duly filled and signed (from your insurer or TPA)
- Copy of the policy / e-card and photo ID of the patient
- Hospital discharge summary (for post-hospitalisation claims)
- Treating doctor’s prescription or referral advising physiotherapy / rehabilitation
- Neuromatics itemised invoices and payment receipts
- Treatment summary with diagnosis, number of sessions, dates and progress
- Relevant investigation reports (X-ray, MRI etc.), if requested
- Cancelled cheque or bank details for reimbursement (NEFT)
Insurers and TPAs
We assist patients with claim documentation for policies from all major insurers in India, including public-sector insurers (such as New India Assurance, United India, National Insurance and Oriental Insurance) and private and standalone health insurers (such as Star Health, HDFC ERGO, ICICI Lombard, Niva Bupa, Care Health, Aditya Birla Health, Bajaj General, Tata AIG, ManipalCigna and SBI General), and with policies serviced by TPAs such as Medi Assist, Paramount, MDIndia, Vidal Health, FHPL and Health India.
Listing an insurer or TPA here means we help with documentation for its policies; it does not mean a cashless tie-up. Please ask our desk for the current list of cashless arrangements, if any.
Corporate, government and employer schemes
If you are covered under an employer scheme, a corporate tie-up or a government health scheme, please contact us with the scheme details — we will confirm eligibility and the process before your first session.
Tips for a smooth claim
- Ask your surgeon or physician to clearly write “physiotherapy / rehabilitation advised” and the expected duration in your discharge summary.
- Check your policy’s post-hospitalisation period so treatment is completed within it.
- Keep all original invoices and receipts — we can provide duplicates if needed.
- Submit the claim promptly; late submissions may be rejected.
