Muscular dystrophies are a group of inherited (genetic) conditions in which muscles become progressively weaker over time, because the body cannot make certain proteins that muscles need to stay healthy. There are many types, including Duchenne, Becker, limb-girdle, facioscapulohumeral and myotonic dystrophy, each with a different pattern and pace.

Rehabilitation cannot reverse muscular dystrophy, but it plays a key role in maintaining function, preventing complications and supporting independence.
